IB ACIO Exam Pattern and Syllabus


The Intelligence Bureau (IB), is considered to be one of the oldest Intelligence agencies around the world. It was about intelligence targeting, but recently it is focused on internal security. Officially, the IB is under the Ministry of Home Affairs, but in practice the Director IB is a Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) member and Steering Committee has the authority to fleeting the chief Minister in case of necessity, but intelligence inputs have to go by regular channels in the MHA to the JIC. The IB operates at state and national level.

The IB exam for ACIO is conducted every year by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Assistant Central Intelligence Officer). Large numbers of candidates attend the exam, but very few acquire success and so seemingly a good preparation of exam is certainly required. Eligible candidates applying for this ACIO exam need to comprehend the exam syllabus.


Age Limit: – 18 to 27 years of age as on the last date of receipt of application.

Upper age: limit relaxation for SC/ST is 5 years and 3 years for OBC candidates.

basic Qualification: – Graduation or equivalent qualification from a recognized university.

Desirable Qualification:- Computers knowledge.

The complete syllabus requires you to prepare for the IB exam so that you are able to crack it. IB requires technical skills and here is the IB exam pattern for ACIO.

Paper I is about Reasoning, General Awareness, Mathematical Ability and Comprehension for 100 minutes.

Paper II is about Analytical Ability and English writing skill

Part I

Comprehension: This is where basic understanding of the English language of the candidates are judged. It includes current affairs, business, science, politics, research, banking, reasoning, economy, differences and similarities, problem solving, space visualization, judgment, examination, discriminating examination, relationship concepts, visual memory, decision-making, non-verbal series, number series and complete basic math.

Part II

Descriptive Exam: This is the descriptive part of English language that includes Essay, Precis writing, office/Business harmonies and comprehension. This is to check analytical ability and English writing skill.

Paper I (Objective kind)

Paper-II (Descriptive kind on English language only).

Time duration for both Papers given is 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Selection course of action:

Examinees are chosen based on the written exam and interview.

Application Fees:

RS. 50 For General / OBC candidates

No fee for Women and SC/ ST candidates.

The fee is to be paid in cash by filling the State Bank of India Chalan.

The Intelligence Bureau Exam let in will be uploaded before the date of examination. Candidates can download the same. The exam authority publishes the consequence of the Intelligence bureau exam on the main web page and it is also obtainable on the website.

General: 70 marks objective and 30 marks descriptive OBC: 55 marks objective and 25 marks descriptive SC/ST: 45 marks objective and 20 marks descriptive
