Fortune-Telling, Horoscopes, Astrology, Consulting Mediums, and Palm-Reading – Just Harmless Fun?
Is consulting fortune-tellers, horoscopes, and mediums harmless fun?
No, it is not. Such activities amount to demon worship.
Yahweh God strictly forbids people to be psychics and mediums and prohibits people to consult such, as the following Scriptures show:
“There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass by the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit [a medium], or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh.” (Deuteronomy 18:10-12, WEB)
“Don’t turn to those who are mediums, nor to the wizards. Don’t seek them out, to be defiled by them. I am Yahweh your God.” (Leviticus 19:31)
Under the Mosaic covenant, mediums, fortunetellers and diviners were to be put to death (Leviticus 20:27). Under the new covenant for Christians, no such person will go into the Kingdom of God, hence they are destined for the eternal death penalty (Galatians 5:19-21; Revelation 21:8).
Why does Yahweh forbid fortune-telling and similar activities? Because psychic powers are not from God but rather from the demons. After the apostle Paul cast out a demon from a fortuneteller, she no longer could give readings:
“It happened, as we were going to prayer, that a certain girl having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by fortune telling. Following Paul and us, she cried out, ‘These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us a way of salvation!’ She was doing this for many days. But Paul, becoming greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, ‘I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!’ It came out that very hour. But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.” (Acts 16:16-19)
Many are not aware that supernatural powers, such as predicting future events and energy healing, are not given by God and are not divine. But from this passage in Acts 16 and others in the Bible, we see that the source of such supernatural abilities is Satan, for “Satan masquerades as an angel of light. It is no great thing consequently if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.” (2 Corinthians 11:14-15) This is why Yahweh warns us to stay away from practicing these powers. additionally, we have no need for such powers, for every person who puts trust in Jesus will be able to personally connect with God, without needing a middleman, besides Jesus, God’s Son; Jesus is the only mediator we need.
Jesus specifically said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will go into into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21) consequently, if we want to mirror the goodness of God, we must do God’s will to the best of our ability. Yahweh said, “You shall be holy; for I Yahweh your God am holy.” (Leviticus 19:2) So if we desire to serve Him and mirror His goodness, we must be holy, and the way to be holy is to do what He says and conform to His standards, not our own standards.
